In fact, St. Tammany boasts the larger number of breweries than any other parish in the state! With numerous breweries popping up across Covington, Mandeville, and the surrounding areas, you’ll love making the short trip from The Green at Northpark, Ibis Trail, Chapel Creek Apartments, or Botanica Apartments to some of the local breweries.
Abita Brewing Company – the big boy of the Louisiana beer scene and one of America’s leading breweries, Abita Brewing Company is the largest producer of craft beer in the Southeast. Guided tours are regularly available for $5 and include a sampling of their fine selections at the end of the tour. Looking to taste a few more? The Abita Brew Pub, located on the Tammany Trace, serves up a mix of their longstanding favorites and seasonal specialties with a complimentary menu of Louisiana eats.
Chafunkta Brewing Company – this nearby nanobrewery, named after the phonetic spelling of the Tchefuncte River, is the brainchild of a husband and wife team passionate above creative brews. Launched in 2011, this brewery and its beers have quickly gained a loyal following. Chafunkta Brewing Company offers tours and samplings every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Covington Brewhouse – located downtown just 10 minutes from The Green at Northpark, Covington Brewhouse is our friendly neighborhood brewery. Offering a wide selection of flagship beers and seasonal favorites, their tap room also boasts free tours, occasional live music, weekly yoga classes, and a great place to watch the Saints play every Sunday!
Old Rail Brew Pub – just off the Mandeville Trailhead, Old Rail is the perfect spot to grab a pint and a delicious meal after a day on the lakefront. And as a true brewpub, Old Rail beers can only be found in-house at their Mandeville restaurant. In addition to their own delicious brews, Old Rail also offers a creative cocktail menu for anybody in need of a beer break.
Pontchartrain Vineyards – not a fan of beer? Don’t fear! The Northshore also has one of Louisiana’s only vineyards. Tucked away in the town of Bush, near the Bogue Chitto River, its rows of grapevines are planted in a region of rich, well-drained soil that is ripe for producing quality wines. Pontchartrain Vineyards also features a French Provincial-style tasting room for sampling wines and an annual Jazz’n the Vines concert series.
